Where is Reason?

It must have been a slow news day in Canada last week. What story lead off many news casts and had a prominent place in the papers. believe it or not is was a story about a dinner planned in Toronto next month by a group called The Canadian Shooting Sports Association. At this dinner they plan to raffle off a rare Beretta handgun to raise money for their group. They planned to invite conservative MP Garry Breitkreuz to speak at this affair. What is the big problem you ask? While the fact that the group is an advocate for gun owners and shooters here in Canada should be your first clue. The anti-gun hystericals believe anything to do with guns is wrong, that they all must be outlawed, never mind having a dinner to promote shooting sports in our country. heavan's forbide that is beyond the pale. How dare they have such a thing. there should be a law.
it seem that a few members of the federal opposition and local politicians got wind of this dinner. They strongly condemed such a outrage. They said it was insenitive to have a pro-gun event in Toronto, which has had problems with gun violence over the last few years. I guess Toronto is the only place in Canada that has had problems with violence and crime. Where should they hold their event than, maybe the artic circle, very little crime there I guess.. What about the legitimate gun owners and shooters in the GTA? Don't they have the right to have events in their city that interests them. Secondly the problem of gun violence is not the fault of legit gun owners and sportsman. It is a failure of law enforcement to stop the smuggling of fire arms from the states and the failure of them to control mainly gang violence in their city. Also the courts have to get tough with people who use a firearm in the commission of a crime. we are suppose to have a law that adds 10 years to a sentence on top of the time for the crime they committed. This does not seem to be applied in many cases.

Secondly this event is put on by a legal sportsman's club. They are raffling a legal firearm to people who are licensed to own and use firearms. The raffle is not open to any body off the street, so criminals and politicians need not apply. Do these politicians not have anything better to do than haress law abiding gun owners. I guess it is easier to go after hunters and shooters than real criminal, because these ruffians may not agree with people taking their firearms and shoot back. I am speaking of course of those criminals. They can also make all the people sleep better knowing that they are really doing something about gun violence by going after target shooters. Some great logic there. Don't they have anything better to do, considering that we are in one of the worst economic down turns since the great depression. Speaking of money these so called evil gun groups bring money to the cities that they have their events in. I guess it is ok to bring despicable anti-democratic groups into their city, like the Liberal party, but sorry to you sports shooters you are too high of a crime risk.

Thirdly as i said before this group supports the honourable shooting sports. So it makes perfect sense that they would have prizes at their events that are fire arm related. If they were a photography club, they would probably raffle off a camera. The hardware fanciers of canada better be careful. They may try to shut you down too. You know a hammer or prunning hook could be considered a dangerious weapon. We can not have the unwashed masses having potential weapons can we.

The deputy mayor of hogtown; Joe Pantalone really had some brilliant things to say. First of all he said " 30% to 40% of legal guns are used illegal activities". Man revenue Canada better check this guy's tax returns a real teller of tall tales.. As Joseph Goebbels, the nazi minister of Propaganda( another pro-gun control type) said "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually believe it". I just love how these windbags just throw out facts with no basis in reality. The Toronto Guns and Gangs Task Force, a group within the Toronto government reports that the figure is closer to 5.7%. Furthermore according to stastics Canada , between the years 1997-2005 only 2.27% of murders were committed with regristered firearms. Ever death is a tragic event, but it is not this huge problem, Pantalone makes it out to be.

Another gem from the deputy major: "To simply have an association and a member of parliament of the governing party be encouraging this really doesn't make any sense' Sounds like his lame agruement, doesn't make any sense at all. Again the thing they are encouraging is legal all across this dominion of ours. Secondly MP Breitkreuz is very involved with the issue of gun control. In fact he has a bill (C-301) in the commons to revoke the huge ineffective blackhole called the gun regristry. they can not forgive him for that. So does it not make perfect sense to invite a legislator involved in gun issues to speak at a gun groups dinner, duh! I don't think it would be unusually for an MP or minister of fisheries to speak at a professional fishman's convention, so whats the difference? Is this not a democracy after all, where our MPS can go to any legal function or conference they want.

There is much double standards here too. I recall during the period when the liberals were setting up their new gun legislation in the 1990's. They were constantly consorting with anti-gun groups. Many of these groups were consulting and advising them on the new laws. For instance Wendy Cukur of The Coalition for Gun Control was constantly in contact with the government; putting in her two cents. I have no problem with that, that is what democracy is all about. Why do the anti-gun types decry this fact when there is a relationships or contacts between politicians and pro-gun groups? What is good for the goose, is good for the gander.

So in the end everything turned out just peachy. Mr Breitkreuz declined his invitation. The shooting club withdrew their invitation so as not to get the MP in anymore hot water. O thank God for that I really sleep soundly now knowing that they have taken a bite out of gun crime. I heard that the powers that be in the conservative party told him in that he could not go. That does not sound like the party i voted for. Do you not believe in democracy and free speech. Actions speak louder than words. Where is the party that will represent the rights and concerns of the legal shooter and hunters. it seems like the conservative maybe starting to set us adrift for all important illogical votes.

Object Lession in Democracy

I was distressed by one of the events that happen during President Hu of Red china visit to the U.S. During his visit with President Bush at the white house a member of the falung gong religion vocally protested china treatment of her group. She was taken out by the secret service and maybe criminally charged with intiminating a foreign official and disorderly conduct. The secret service doen't know how she cleared all the security for a press pass. She was given press credentials by The Epoch Times,a falung gong affiliated newspaper. Her name is Wenyl Wang a doctor by trade and a falung gong practitioner. Was she a planted protester, most likely she was, but sometimes you have to do drastic things to let the world know about the grim reality of a totalitarian state.

Kudos to Miss Wang for this act of protest. The history of the people's Republic of china has been nothing but a sordid history of mass murder, arbitary mass arrests and imprisonment, aggresstion against other countries and repression of freedom of thought, speech, and religion in their so called workers paradise, Someone has to bring a light on the truth on this reprehensible state. It is good to see there are people that are willing to stand up for what is right and not molly cuddle this evil state. Many in the west placate china, because we can obtain cheap consumer goods from them, and they have such a large market to exploit. Shame on us for putting cheap eletronic goods before the freedom and dignity of the chinese people.

One of the most disturbing elements of this event was: Mr Bush actually apologisied to this tyrant for the outburst. He could have used this event to give Mr Hu a lesson in democracy. He could have told him that a true democracy is a messy and loud affair, sometimes you have to let the people speak. It is not always a polite and predictable affair, but that is what makes it great. It is the best form of government compared to all others that have been tried. Instead he probaly had Wal-Mart stocks in his eyes and decided to apology to Hu, so not to upset him with this outburst from an unwashed commoner. Way to be Bush you really dropped the ball on this one.

It has been said that democracy is the worst of all governments, except all the others that have been tried . Sir Winston Churchill.

Why Did You have To Do That with Your Election Canada?

I know it is a little late now, but I would just like to lament the results of the 2006 federal election. What gives Canada; why did you give the second most powerful positions in the commons to one of the most corrupt, arrogant, and self serving political parties in Canadian history. Was there a sunspot that day that caused mass amnesia among the voting populace. Did you forget 13 years of liberal misrule. Now these rogues are in power to have a profound influence on the next parliament. They should have been swept into the dustbin of history like; Mulroney's conservatives of 1993. With this cleansing maybe they would learn that they are there as the servants of you the people, not there to enrich themselves and their cronies. If we keep decimating governments no matter what their political stripe, sooner or later the political class will learn to truly represent the people and to do what is good for the country and people, not the party or themselves, or face the prospect of being out of power.. We may go throught a few governments and may have to elect parties that we would not consider for forming a government, but like I said hopefully the political class will get the point and stop their wicked self serving ways.

The breakdown in seats in the house of commons is as follows:
Conservative Liberal BQ NDP Ind
125 102 51 29 1
As you can see the liberals are still powerful and can easily cause a lot of mayhem in the commons with some a little help of the other opposition parties. If they act like her majesty"s loyal opposition and advise and consent in a responsive manner and kill bad bills everything maybe fine and dandy. Unfortunately I have a bad feeling and from past actions, the liberals will try to sabotage the conservative regime ,not for any good reasons, but for spite. After all according to them and many pundits, the liberals are the nature ruling party of Canada. How dare the conservates knock them out of their rightful place as the leaders of our country. I believe that after they get their new leader and pay off some debts, they will start a campaign to topple the conservatives regardless if needed or not. I hope their new leader is not in the vein of the old lib leaders, the pompous, vain type that would be more at home in the palace of versailles(ie Trudeau& Chretien). I hope the new leader will have some wisdom and foresight to learn of the mistakes of the past and do what is right for the people of Canada. If Harper and his gang get too full of themselves: by all means bring them down, but do not bring them down because you are seeking revenge. Unfortunately I believe they will resort to their old ways and we will have a new election in a couple years. I think even if they get a new wise leader, there will still be the old hardliners in the party that will be seeking revenge regardless to the cost involved for Canadians.

So when the next election come, please do not reward crooks and selfserving rogues like the liberals. I think they can not believe how lucky they were in the last election. After all their shindagins and crooked misrule, they still came in as the official opposition. Many probably think that you will forget their past misdeeds and return them to their former glory. After all during the time when their corruption was being brought to the light of day, they still took over 100 seats. So if you enjoy high taxes and a government that takes care of it's own first, a government that believe that corrupt practices are just part of doing business, than by all means vote Liberal. After all it is only your money they are spending on themselves and their lackeys.

Another distressing charactistic about the liberal is how mercenary many of them are. They seem to have really only one goal and that is to obtain power, keep it, and enrich themselves and their pals, regardless of the costs. Case in point during the 1993 election the libs were against free trade and said they would abolish the hated GST, all introduced by the evil Mulroney. What did they do after winning a land slide, they did a complete 180 degree turn and introduced everything they were against. How convient railing against a hated tax for surefire votes, but when you get in ,not abolishing it. They realized this tax was a cash cow and could be used to fuel their indulgences. Also when they were in power all they seemed to do was stonewall promises they made in their infamous red book(did they get inspiration from chairman Mao), and like sheep we fell for their lies for 13 years. Way to be Canada. I am sure there are some truly good liberals that actually believe in community service and doing what is right for the country, but they seem few and far between. There are also these political mercs in the other parties too. no ones house is totally clean. We have to insure that these characters are turfed out of positions of power to make a better more productive country. They always say you get the government you deserve, so please think before you vote.

Liberal Ideas On Gun Crime Misfires

They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty or safety.---- Benjamin Franklin.

Do you smell desperation in the air? I believe I do after Mr Martin's announcement on how he is going to curb gun violence in the big cities: by banning handguns. He is desperate to show that his government has a workable and tough gun control policy, after all these years in power, but as we know he does not. After the $2 billion and counting bondoggle called the gun registry. This was the Liberals golden policy that would make Canada a safer place, but it has not it has cost the taxpayers of Canada billions of wasted dollars and made no significant dent on crime. It has been a DISMAL failure. Another leading light of the Liberal party idea was to ban a so called gangsta rapper from playing in Toronto. WOw what penetrating insight and wisdom, I can see now why the Liberals are the so called natural ruling party of Canada. A tragic case in point was the murder of that police officer in Quebec This registry was set up specifically to prevent a crime like that. It was suppose to give the police a heads up if there were any firearms in the house. They should have known that this sicko was given the right to own a rifle for hunting, even know he had a history of violent behavior and making threats to law officers, and under the law that was partly introduced by the liberals, he should have been banned from possessing guns, by some trick of sick fate this individual was allowed to possess firearms. Maybe the judge who heard his appeal was upset that his cultural rights were being trampled on, hunting is part of his cultural heritage( an NDP favorite), or maybe he felt that throught the discipline of hunting this poor fellow would overcome his mental illness. Thanks to the law already on the books, not being enforced a fine police constable lies cold in her grave

Have the Liberals and the anti-gun zealots not learned that dracodian gun control laws do not reduce crime, many times they have the opposite effect. The criminal underclass becomes embolden by the prospect of an unarmed citizenry. They know that there are very little consequences if they break into a home. Unfortunately the thugs will be armed because they do not follow the laws anyway, and the law abiding person who have legitimate needs for guns will fellow the misguided laws. The effect of these laws are only a temporary feel good state for the population. It pays for the government of the day, because it appears to their constituents that they are getting tough on crime, and a lot of people will feel that for some reason the criminals will be disarmed. This is a common Liberals tactic; perception over reality. Make sure it looks like we are doing something even know it has no real effect on the problem.

A lot of the anti-gun crowd point to europe as an shining example of a gun free utopia. In many countries in europe firearms are virtually outlawed or very strictly controlled, to ridicules excesses. In the Untied Kingdom where gun control is very strict the violent crime rate has been steadily rising. In fact one of the most utilized weapons is the, wait for it: broken pint beer glass. I guess according to the logic of the antigunners, we should outlaw pint containers of glass and replace it with plastic.

The zealots never seem to point out the experience of the country of Switzerland. This country is one of the few totally neutral countries in the world. To enforce this neutrality they have turned their small mountainous country into a virtual fortress. They also have an army made up of all male citizens, a citizen's militia that most serve and train for certain times of the year. In order to be an effective force ready to go into action at a drop of a hat; All the members must keep a military rifle, with ammo in their homes. Many of this rifles are fully automatic too. They must train with them and enter shootng matches to show their proficiency. Believe it or not, to the horror of the bleeding heart gun banners, their violent crime rate is very low. Their national homicide rate is comparable to a 6 month rate in one of Canada's large cities. Also in this country of great common sense, handguns are legally obtained and owned by purchasing a certificate. They are routinely issued, and not used as a pretense to deny people the right to own handguns, like in many countries like our sweet homeland. Also in many Swiss cantons or provinces the right to carry concealed firearms is allowed. There seems to be no difference between the crime levels of cantons that allow concealed carry and those that do not.

One of the problems we have here in canada is our over lenient criminal justice system. They seem to be overly preoccupied with the prisoner's rights, rehabilitation and clearing the court docket. One of the miscreants named Andre Thompson who was involved in the gun fight on boxing day was on parole for armed robbery. He had at least 12 charges dropped against him by the crown , if he plead guilty to armed robbery. What did he get for armed robbery; two 30 day jail terms. UNBELIEVABLE, what the hell is wrong with the crown and judge to give such a light sentence for such a serious crime. Under legislation passed by the last conservative government, with the liberals support, anyone who uses a firearm in the comission of a crime gets a mandatory 5yr sentence sentence on top of the sentence for the actually crime. So it is pretty easy if we enforce the laws we have, maybe we can do something about the violent crime problem.

One of the problems is we do not have enough jail space, well we should start building more jails. These jails should also be built in the remote arctic. If people know that they are going to be sent to a extremely cold remote prison in the middle of nowhere, they may think twice about committing a crime. Also I remember when I was in the army reserve, we saw a film about the military prison in Edmonton. Let me tell you it scared the hell out of me and my mates. The prison was run under strict military discipline and the inmates were kept very busy all day with menial labour and cleaning their kit and rooms. So I believe that our military should run the prison system. This fact plus the remoteness of the facility will not make a lot of people relish the fact of a revisit and it would have a deterrent effect on the street.

Also I believe to truly get tough with these cold blooded thugs we should bring back the death penalty. This would truly punish murders and prevent them from returning to the streets to continue their life of crime. I am sorry but if you indiscriminately open up with a gun on a crowded city street with no regard for the lives of innocence people, you do not deserve any mercy from society. You are like a mad dog that has to be put down for the safety of society at large. I believe that capital punishment would again have a deterrent effect. It would not effect all criminals, but some would be effected if they knew that they will pay a high price for their actions.

According to the authorities a lot of the guns used in these heinous crimes are smuggled in from the U.S. Would it not make sense to try to prevent this by shoring up our borders and implementing programs and law enforcement groups to break up and jail these smuggling rings.

Even people that live in areas that are hardest hit by gun crimes believe Martin's announcements are nothing but a bunch of empty platitudes. Reverend Al Bowen pastor to 18yr old Amon Beckles who was shot down in cold blood at his friends funeral and a resident of one of the high crime areas in Toronto' thought it was foolish. Rev Bowen also said" My leader dares to walk into this community that has been bereaved so many times and make the announcement that they're going to ban hand guns. It is a fly swatter against a rhinoceros" True words of wisdom. The different levels of government were suppose to have a gun summit in Toronto to discuss the problem and see what they can do about it. Martin and his fellow zealot mayor Miller did not even show up. Some commitment to the problem eh. I guess it is more politically expedient to go after law abiding gun owners than gang bangers.

I remember when Mr Martin made his annoucement about this ban. He said if you see anyone with a gun go tell the police and they will take care of it. I think it would be much more productive if you see a liberal call the police because they most likely have their hand in your pocket trying to steal your money. This announcement shows how truly bankruptcy of ideas the liberals are, after their 12 years in power. Also it is a scary sign that they will trample on your rights to retain power and put on a good show. Who knows what other rights they will trample on in the future if they were in the same predicament. there is a wise swiss saying that applies here, if the government can not trust the people; the people can not trust the government.

What Does it Take?

Goddamn it.
